Wooden Quote Sign {and a little catch up!}

Surprise!
I'm baaaaaack :)

OK, so I'm not so stellar at
writing incredibly frequent posts
on this little bloggy blog here,
but it's the thought that counts, right?

So I wanted to show you a little
sumthin' I made a few weeks back.
I made it for a gallery wall that
I'm working on in our master bedroom.
Unfortunately, this little gallery wall
project has been in the works for a few weeks now.
{Along with 27 4 other projects I'm working on.}

I want this gallery wall to be fun and meaningful.
It is the first wall you see as you
walk into our bedroom.
So.... I saw this quote awhile back on my
sister's blog, and I loved it!
I knew it needed to hang on my wall.

There you have it.
Notice the many imperfections...
the crooked letters,
the not completely white letters...
I made them that way on purpose,
to symbolize the fact that Wes and I
are two imperfect human beings
but we love each other
anyway.
Haha, got ya!
Those imperfections were
accidents, tehe.
And you thought I was really super deep.
Fooled you.

So, I didn't take step by step photos.
Again, not up for the top blogger award here.
But all I did was sand a square piece of plywood
(luckily for me I have a ton of square pieces
of plywood lying around that I snagged
at a garage sale 2 years ago).

Then I spray painted the board in an off-white color.

Next I used my Silhouette to cut out the letters
for the quote (I used cardstock).
I laid the letters on the board,
and spray painted black over them.
This is where my laziness caused
those imperfections I mentioned earlier.
I didn't adhere the letters to the board at all,
so a few of them thought they could escape
during the spray painting process.

Finally, I sanded the edges lightly to make
the board look slightly worn.

There you have it.
Not too hard, huh?
Overall, I am happy with how the board
turned out and I think it will
be a fun addition to our bedroom!

I can't leave you without a picture pictures of
my kitten britches
(my new fav nickname for Claire).

Our little dancing queen :)

I couldn't get enough pictures of kitten britches (or Meadow- Claire's hippy name for the day she wore this) in this adorable dress- thanks for Aunt Christy for it!

Claire loved her first boat ride!

Craft Night! {Bird's Nest Necklaces}

Hi everyone!
Today was a picture perfect summer day
here in my neck of the woods.
Claire and I celebrated the occasion
with a trip to the zoo with
some friends!

Love this sweet little hat!

Cutie pies

Riding the "choo choo"

Now, on to the topic of discussion:
craft night!

Last week I had these super wonderful
friends over to make some
sweet little bird's nest necklaces.

Here's the one that I ended up with:

Love :)

Here are some that the other girls created:

Everyone did a great job!
And the possibilities with these little nests
are endless!
One of my friends had the idea
of making a ring out of her nest,
and another friend suggested
making earrings.

Unfortunately I didn't take step by step pictures,
but if you want to make one of
these sweet little necklaces for yourself,
you can find tutorials
here and here.

Now go, shoo... be inspired!
Go make something cute,
and when you do,
share it with me so I can make it too :)

Happy nesting!

"Our Little Sunshine" Themed Birthday Party

Since I know you have all been on the edge of your seats
dying to see pictures of the decorations from our little Claire's
"Our Little Sunshine" party we had yesterday,
I will keep you in suspense no longer :).

But first, play this little song to help set the mood!

Like I mentioned before, I am a sucker for party themes,
{You should probably check it out if, like me,
little details like name tags for food items
cause your heart to beat a little bit faster because of
how cute they look.}
It was at this blog where I found this party,
which was the inspiration for Claire's little shindig.

So, without further ado, here are the pics from
Claire's party:

{The spread with a "Happy Birthday Claire" banner}

{I got the tissue paper pom poms from a friend, but you can learn how to make them here

{Claire's smash cake + my first attempt at fondant... let's just say I'm no cake boss}

{Goldfish crackers in the bowl- gotta stick with the theme you know!}

{LemonHeads and Orange slices candy}

{Part of the spread}

{The ol' cover the water bottle labels with scrapbook paper trick}

{Banner with a picture from every month of Claire's life so far}

{Lemonade stand}

{Another view of the table}

During the party, I played songs that went along with the theme.
Here was the playlist I used:

Ain't No Sunshine by Al Jarreau
Walking on Sunshine by Jump5
Sunrise by Brandon Heath
Soak Up the Sun by Sheryl Crow
Sittin' in the Sun by Louis Armstrong
You Are My Sunshine by Norman Blake
Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles

The only real supplies I used (aside from the food, plates, napkins)
were scrapbook paper and ribbon for the banners I made,
some glitter-covered die cut letters I found at Michaels (also for the banners),
a white, yellow, and orange artificial daisy,
a yellow plastic tablecloth,
and a few paper doilies.
As I mentioned, I got the tissue pom poms from a friend,
but had I made them myself I also would have needed tissue paper for those.

That's it people... not too bad!
I had a lot of fun planning this party...
and now I get to start thinking about what to do next year!
Because, as I discovered this past year,
the years are going to FLY by!

Thanks for reading, and happy nesting!
